William "Bill" Lewis Hawkins Sr.

On Monday, January 24, 2022, William "Bill" Lewis Hawkins, Sr. was welcomed to heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beloved wife, Bethel. Bill was born December 2, 1932 at his parents' home on Leatherwood, the son of Charles Otmer Hawkins and Dulcie Jane Thomas Hawkins. He was married to Mary Bethel Lesher, whom he adored, and for the next 64 years they loved their Lord, each other, and their family. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, who served two tours in Korea and one in Vietnam. After his retirement from the army, he served as Pastor of Volga Baptist Church in Volga, WV. Bill and Bethel raised their three children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord: Randy William Hawkins, Sr. and his wife Karen, of Greenville, SC; Kathy Ellen White and her husband Jeff of Lynchburg, VA; and William Lewis Hawkins, Jr. and his wife Sherry, also of Lynchburg, VA. He is survived by two sisters, Sarah Lyons and Geraldine Isenhour. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Rosalee Stanley, Ruth, Jane Stanley, Denzile, Madgeline White, Velma Hayes, Ova, and Paul. Bill boasted seven grandchildren: Erin Hunter, Randy Hawkins, Jr., Kyrie Troy, Mary White, Heather Bowen, Logan Hawkins, and Anna Walker. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren. The viewing will be held from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Saturday January 29, 2022 at Matics Funeral Home Inc. The funeral will immediately follow 1:30 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Worley and Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will take place at the Hawkins Cemetery in Clendenin, WV.
